The Mariners sit alone atop the American League West!

While you snored early this morning, the 2012 MLB regular season got under way 13 time zones from the East Coast, 16 from the West. The Mariners and A’s played an extra-inning affair in the Tokyo Dome that Seattle won, 3-1, in the 11th.

Neither Felix Hernandez nor Brandon McCarthy walked a batter in eight and seven innings of work respectively. Ichiro returned to his native soil and delighted the more than 44,000 fans in attendance with four hits in his five plate appearances.

The two squads will face off again tomorrow before returning to the States. Set the timer on your coffeemaker accordingly.
