Choose Fights You Can Win

That is the sound advice Ramesh Ponnuru offers Republicans. Rather than deploy apocalyptic rhetoric against President Obama, congressional Republicans should focus on contrasting their policies against those offered by congressional Democrats. This “strategy of disengagement” will ideally allow for the decontamination of a GOP brand damaged by a series of escalating confrontations with the president. These confrontations have defined the GOP primarily in negative terms, as the anti-Obama party, not as a governing party with an affirmative vision.
