Graphic Designer

National Review is seeking an experienced creative graphic designer to develop digital and print graphics to support its product suite and marketing efforts. A full-time position, this role will be based in National Review’s New York City HQ (currently remote due to the pandemic) and will report directly into the Director, Marketing & Growth Strategy.

Responsibilities:

• Work closely with the Marketing Director to meet project objectives in conceptualization and development of graphics, illustrations, typography, and layouts.

• Work closely with numerous department heads, stakeholders, and Publisher to develop and maintain brand guidelines, ensuring all aspects of your work meet the established criteria.

• Create layouts and graphics for web, print, email, digital/print advertising, and social media, including custom images, illustrations, templates, graphs, or other.

• Complete all design assignments according to NR’s needs while meeting all technical requirements and department standards.

• Ensure that final materials are accurate, error-free, and prepped appropriately for output (print and digital).

• Meet all deadlines while juggling multiple projects.

What you have:

• Bachelor’s degree in graphic design, digital design, visual communications, or art direction, or comparable professional experience.

• Ability to ideate and produce compelling visual content that is brand-specific.

• Interest and confidence in designing for multiple formats—web, email marketing, print, etc.

• Strong written and verbal communication skills.

• Solid understanding of photography, illustration, layout, typography, and brand look and feel.

• Understanding of creative-development requirements for advertising.

• Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, XD, and Acrobat).

• Detail-orientation with great self-motivation; the ability to work and prioritize independently; the ability to maintain an exceptional level of organization while managing multiple deadlines.

• Knowledge of HTML is highly preferred.

• MAJOR PLUS: Ability to ideate, design, and code/build responsive graphics for purposes of supplementing digital content and advertising in an interactive way.

Manager/Editor, Content & Social Media Management

National Review is seeking a Manager/Editor, Content & Social Media Management. The ideal candidate is a recognized leader of people, with skill sets that are equal parts web production, content curation, audience development, and social media whiz. You will be responsible for overseeing a team of content managers that curate our homepage & section fronts and increase organic traffic to the website via SEO and social media. This team is also responsible for producing National Review‘s various multi-media offerings, including photo galleries, videos & more.

A brand new position to National Review, this role would report into the Publisher and be responsible for SEO and the organic social media strategy and execution, The role will also work very closely with our Executive Editor on Digital Production of the semi-monthly magazine. This role will also work closely with the Business and Editorial teams to collaborate on content paywall decisions and strategies (including day-to-day paywalled article selections), and with Product Development, Circulation & Marketing Department heads to ensure proper support for the content team and growth of our products and programs to achieve all company-wide goals.

Candidates should have a passion for news and politics, an obsession with social media, an advanced knowledge and ability for content curation and experience in audience development and engagement.

What you and your team will do:

• Manage a team of approximately 5-7 content managers, participating in the future hiring & onboarding of new team members, who manage SEO, curation & more;

• Oversee SEO, staying atop the latest trends and working with varying teams to ensure forward-thinking strategy and growth;

• Work across Editorial & Business teams, overseeing daily paywalled content choices;

• Assist in the production of the digital versions of our semi-monthly magazine, National Review, meeting the posting requirements and deadlines of all our partners, including our app provider, AppleNews+, Readly, Amazon;

• Develop and execute creative programming for NR’s social and email channels that meet the editorial goals of the brand;

• Manage the execution of all social media posts (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest, LinkedIn, etc.);

• Work across numerous departments, help add, subtract, and coordinate email messaging and other editorial communications efforts.

• Manage the multi-media production currently living within the Content Management team, such as video creation, output, posting, etc.

• Work with the business leadership to grow our products and services, including the identification, negotiation, and onboarding of new partners and tools for growth.

• Use analytics and data to inform and improve decision-making; use external/internal data platforms (e.g. Google Analytics, CrowdTangle, etc.) to analyze data and determine long-term strategies.

What you have:

• Editorial/social media/audience-development experience in digital publishing and/or media. News and/or politics background preferred;

• Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, marketing, or other digital media field preferred;

• Visionary leadership abilities rooted in strategy, analysis, and data;

• Creativity, with a bias towards urgency and perfect execution;

• An understanding of analytics and data (knowledge of Facebook Insights, Google Analytics, SocialFlow, and similar programming/reporting tools);

• Ability to work across many teams, including production, editorial, marketing, and sales.

Data Analyst

National Review (NR) is seeking a digital media & analytics enthusiast to take on the position of Manager Data Analytics. A new position, this role would be responsible for participating with and assisting senior management – Finance / Publisher / Editorial – to manage our critical investments and initiatives for growth in our expanding digital transformation, including management of our key financial metrics and audience and donor platforms. This position will provide crucial insights for website and revenue optimization, while managing audience, donor and related platforms, to ensure enhanced user experiences, growth opportunities and investment optimization, such as converting web visitors to paid subscribers, increase web traffic, and yield optimization.

The ideal candidate will come to NR with an understanding of media industry KPIs and strategies, while have a true passion for data management & financial/operational analytics.  

Responsibilities:

• Oversee current audience and donor data management systems, and the connections between all systems NR uses, to enhance analytics for tracking and decision-making.

• Work with Finance, Revenue Operations, Circulation, Product Management and Donor Relations to extract, organize & analyze data to advise on website, product, or other enhancements to improve customer experiences, reduce unnecessary overhead, and increase yield and overall revenue.

• Research, develop and implement databases and related data collection systems and analytics.

• Build, manage, and improve (filter & clean) data, and automate reports, dashboards, and ongoing data analysis.

• Work with third-party vendors and revenue intermediaries to improve the quality and organization of data delivered and evaluate their performance.

• Identify, analyze, and interpret trends and patterns in complex data sets and develop reporting into concise presentations and actionable plans.

• Develop new and existing product-line financial and operational reporting metrics and goals.

• Work with key department heads to prioritize business and information needs and define new process improvement opportunities.

• Organize and build internal and competitive set analysis.

• Assist in development of personnel tracking analytics for headcount management and other personnel-related metrics.

• Derive best-practice recommendations from all reporting to share with various internal teams.

Requirements:

• A degree in Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, or a comparable degree. Major or minor in a business discipline preferred;

• 1-2 years of experience with Performance Analytics. Experience with Google Analytics highly preferred;

• Experience using statistical computer languages (SQL, Python, R, etc.) to manipulate data and draw insights from large data sets;

• Knowledge and experience with Database Management and Data Modeling. Strong modeling and advanced Excel skills are required;

• Some experience with Social Analytics (Parse.ly, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube) is a plus;

• Strong attention to detail, analytical skills, and data integrity with solid foundation in statistical techniques;

• Familiarity with and/or working knowledge of web applications, programming languages, and web services and web user interface design (UI) highly preferred.

• Sense of urgency and team player.
