1,000 E-mails to an “Honorary Mormon”

An e-mail:

… just by virtue of your kindness toward us, you’ve probably already gotten 1000 emails like this one. But just in case:

Re your post re Dionne’s column re Mitt’s formulation of “every single human being is a child of God”: Mitt’s been saying this his whole life. The first song every Mormon child learns in Primary (sort of a cross between Sunday School and Catechism) is called I Am a Child of God. The words a simple exposition of the Mormon belief in this life and the next, and I don’t know a Christian anywhere who would disagree with a word of it:

I am a child of God

And he has sent me here

Has given me an earthly home

With parents kind and dear

(chorus)

Lead me, guide me, walk beside me

Help me find the way

Teach me all that I must do

To live with Him someday

I am a child of God

And so my needs are great

Help me to understand his words

Before it grows too late

(chorus)

I am a child of God

Rich blessings are in store

If I but learn to do His will

I’ll live with Him once more

(chorus)
