Olmert: Unaware of deal to free Shalit
PM denies Arab reports of agreement to release kidnapped soldier within two days in exchange for 1,400 Palestinian prisoners
Prime Minister Ehud Olmert denied at the opening of hid briefing to the Knesset Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee Monday reports of a deal on the release of kidnapped soldier Gilad Shalit in upcoming days.
“I know nothing about this,” the PM said, adding that he first read about it in the newspapers.
Qatari newspaper al-Sharq reported that a security and diplomatic deal for the release of Corporal Shalit, is due to be signed within 48 hours. According to the report, Shalit will be freed in exchange for the release of 1,400 Palestinian prisoners jailed in Israel.
