Jonah: As fate would have it, I’ve got a piece scheduled for tomorrow on NRO about the drinking age–and calling for it to be lowered to 18. Although I’m sure that there are many law-abiding students, legal-age 21 is honored mainly in the breach. Because it is so widely abused and so rarely enforced, especially on campuses, one of its main results is to teach disrespect for the law. It also has done far less to reduce drunk-driving fatalities than the people at MADD would have you believe. (A new group called Choose Responsibility has loads of info.) All this and more–tomorrow.
