Romney’s comments from the fundraiser are sure to come up tonight, one way or the other. Given how damaging they were, Romney had two options in dealing with them — to obfuscate what he said or just full-on retract. He took the latter option shortly after the first debate (so shortly afterwards, in fact, I bet his plan was to fully retreat if the comments had come up in the first debate). I think when they come up tonight there now may actually be a little upside for him. In doing his mea culpa, he can show humility and the ability to admit when he messed something up.
