$70,000: A Goal for All True Americans

On Thursday afternoon, NR editor in chief Rich Lowry posted an update on the Corner on the current webathon asking readers, “Can You Get Us to $60,000?”

It behooves me to point out that, yes, while Rich’s post was up for just a few short hours before NR’s readers put us past that $60K goal, Rich picked a conveniently achievable goal just a few thousand bucks off of what the webathon had raised to that point.

That surely wasn’t a coincidence.

Rich’s touchdown dance this morning is, in many respects, akin to the way that his beloved state of Virginia constantly celebrates itself as the “Mother of Presidents” . . . when it’s been 103 years since the last Virginian (Woodrow Wilson) ran the executive branch.

So in the spirit of the America-west-of-the-Tidewater, I’m going to go big or go home and ask if you can get us to $70,000. Considering we’re at $61,000 now, reaching $70K would represent a far greater distance than Rich had to travel and put him in his proper place.

Americans know a challenge when they see it. And they know how to rise to meet it.

It’s also what we at NR strive to do every single day. But we can only do our work with your help. That is not an exaggeration — it’s 100 percent the truth. The support of NR’s readers and subscribers allows us to keep Andy McCarthy on the beat of Biden family corruption. It keeps Maddy Kearns in the game covering the damage done to American teens by the evangelism of the modern transgender movement. And it keeps Jim Geraghty on the move (and at his keyboard) as he covers every subject under the sun — and always through a sane and sober conservative lens.

NR won’t be intimidated into staying silent when reporting on these subjects. But we couldn’t do it without our readers and supporters.

So please: Consider donating to our webathon to support this coverage.

You can also (or instead) opt to make a contribution to National Review Institute, the 501(c)(3) journalistic think tank that supports top NR talent and preserves and promotes Bill Buckley’s legacy. Unlike contributions to NR Inc., these are tax-deductible. We appreciate whatever you can give. Thank you.
