In his “You lie!” speech back around Labor Day, Obama said: “And there is agreement in this chamber on about 80 percent of what needs to be done, putting us closer to the goal of reform than we have ever been.” We heard similar comments from other Dem leaders at various times, and even comments from GOP leaders that there was some common ground. If you go out on a limb and assume there was some truth to what Obama said, I always wondered why he/Reid/Pelosi didn’t avoid all these battles and just go for that 80 percent that presumably was guaranteed to pass. And it’s especially ironic given how many times we’ve heard them lately whine that “something is better than nothing.”
