A Bush and a Babe

On behalf of Yale University, baseball captain George Bush accepts Babe Ruth’s autobiography from the author in 1948. (George Bush Presidential Library and Museum / Handout via Reuters)

My Impromptus today begins with notes about Bush 41 — then goes on with notes about the current president, possible future presidents, and others (including WFB). The above picture is one of my favorites. It is a very American photo, isn’t it? Other people like the photo of Nixon and Elvis. That is indeed a curiosity, but I’ll take the one of young GHWB and the Babe.

Do you have a favorite photo along these lines? One that says “America” in a striking way? Lemme know at jnordlinger@nationalreview.com.
