In seeking a replacement for Peter Jennings, there was an opportunity for ABC to signal conservative viewers who have abandoned the network news. They should have tried to lure Brit Hume back to the network. He is a great news guy and has the experience and gravitas to fill the chair. Brit seems perfectly content at Fox so they probably would have have been rebuffed but it would have attracted lots of attention and reflected a welcome overture to the disaffected. Had they have been lucky enough to land Hume, he would have been a stronger competitor than the Barbie and Ken team they settled on.
