Mother Jones today attacks the GOP for its “plan to fund anti-abortion activists.” By this they mean a bill introduced by Rep. Cliff Stearns that would provide federal funds for Pregnancy Resource Centers to purchase sonogram machines. In high dudgeon, Mother Jones reports that the bill requires the facility to provide women with “alternatives to abortion such as childbirth and adoption and information concerning public and private agencies that will assist in those alternatives.” Good heavens, that’s dastardly work indeed.
My favorite line in the article is a quote from Nancy Keenan, the president of NARAL Pro-Choice America. “Taxpayers,” she says without a hint of irony, “should not foot the bill for organizations that push a political agenda.”
