About Tucker Joining NR Institute Ideas Summit Lineup

I’m echoing the news that the popular host of Fox News’ Tucker Carlson Tonight will be joining us — and we hope you — at NR Institute’s 2019 Ideas Summit, taking place this March 28 – 29 in Washington, D.C. at the Mandarin Oriental.

It’s my understanding that the great Michael Brendan Dougherty will engage Tucker in a conversation about his much-discussed early January monologue on the state of conservatism, free-market principles and their consequences, and much more. We’re calling it “Populism and the Right.”

This should be (will be!) scintillating. And it’s just more groovy news about the Ideas Summit, coming on the heels of yesterday’s announcements that Adam Carolla will head the “Night Owl” session on free speech, and that Rich Lowry and Jonah Goldberg will climb the turnbuckles for a have-it-out — Jonah’s dubbed it The Whomp in the Swamp — over nationalism and populism.

The MBD / Tucker talk is just one of many scheduled events happening over the two-day (action packed!) gathering. Topics will includes The Buckley Legacy; Immigration and Assimilation; The New Socialism; The Role of the U.S. in the World; The Constitutional Order; Free Speech on College Campuses; American Innovation; An Economy That Works; Opportunities for All; Education; How to Think About Nationalism; The Natural Gas Revolution; Federalism . . . and plenty more.

Let’s wrap this up with a double-negative: How can you not be there? Be there! Sign up here.

On Gratitude and Immigration

Like both Rich and David, I consider it flatly inappropriate for the president of the United States to be telling Americans -- rhetorically or otherwise -- to “go back where you came from.” In consequence, you will find no defense of the president from me, either. What Trump tweeted over the weekend was ... Read More

The ‘Squad’ Gives a Gift to Donald Trump

On Sunday, Donald Trump gave the Democrats a gift -- comments that indicate he thinks native-born congresswomen he detests should “go back” to the countries of their ancestors. On Monday, the four congresswomen handed Trump a gift in return, managing to respond to the president’s insults in some of the most ... Read More
