The Corner

“Accidental Racist”

That’s the new country-rapper duet that’s creating some controversy.  I’m all for tolerance, and I’m a proud Southerner, but I would advise any white person who doesn’t want to be mistaken for a redneck to avoid wearing the Confederate flag.  Sorry to have to say that, but it’s true.  And, of course, any black person–or person of any color, for that matter–who doesn’t want to be mistaken for a thug should avoid dressing like one.  Sorry again, and I know that young males have always wanted to look tough, but that’s the way it is.  If you label yourself, don’t complain when people read the label in predictable and understandable ways.  As for the rest of the song, it overdramatizes race relations in a hackneyed and unhelpful manner.
