ACU Backs Scott for DeMint’s Seat

Governor Nikki Haley (R., S.C.) will soon pick Senator Jim DeMint’s successor, and many names are being mentioned by Palmetto State insiders, from congressmen (Mick Mulvaney, Tim Scott) to state politicians.

But the clamor for Scott is growing. According to the Hill, Scott is DeMint’s favorite. Several conservative groups are also supporting Scott, including the American Conservative Union. Earlier today, ACU chairman Al Cardenas issued a statement:

“On behalf of the American Conservative Union, I urge South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley to make history and appoint Representative Tim Scott to the United States Senate. A strong conservative leader, Rep. Scott has an ACU rating of 96 and was elected as one of two members chosen by his colleagues to represent the 85 member Republican freshmen class at the leadership table.”

Haley, for her part, has said that she will not appoint a “place holder” to serve the remainder of DeMint’s term. That likely means Scott and other rising lawmakers are under consideration.

According to a Fox News poll this week, 38 percent of ... Read More

The Collusion Scenario

It has become an article of faith in some quarters on the right -- well, most -- that the Mueller investigation has found no evidence of collusion with Russia and has accordingly shifted gears to process crimes like lying to the FBI or obstruction of justice.
