The Afterlife

Today on Uncommon Knowledge President George W. Bush describes the life and responsibilities of a former president, dismissing the notion that serving the country in a political role is a sacrifice.

“The other person who has served as a role model for me for a long time is George H. W. Bush, who famously said, “Once you leave the stage, you stay off the stage.” I thought long and hard about that. I decided not being on the stage was something I was comfortable with. Peter, there is really no sacrifice in serving the country, particularly if you love the country like I do. But if there is one sacrifice it is loss of anonymity, and to a certain extent I am trying to–best that I can, trying to–regain it.”
