Air America Cont’d

Brian Anderson — author of South Park Conservatives — makes another point:

Hey Jonah:   Not to flog a dead lefty radio network, but another key reason AA couldn’t get off the ground was the demographics of liberalism in the U.S.–this was a point Dick Morris made to me. Two-thirds of liberals (he said) in the country are black and Hispanic, and they tend to listen overwhelmingly to Hispanic or African-American urban radio outlets; to get enough listeners to survive, AA would have had to pull a good number of these listeners in, which it failed to do, or somehow get all of NRP’s white liberal listeners. It was just impossible, especially combined with the crappy product, existence of myriad other left-leaning outlets, and the top-down socialist network building model they adopted.
