The 1996 Democratic ticket is now completely vegan.
A Forbes article from Saturday about Hampton Creek Foods, a startup that aims to replace eggs with a plant-based formula, casually referred to former vice president Al Gore as “newly turned vegan.” He joins President Bill Clinton in the vegan fold—the nation’s former commander-in-chief forsook dairy, meat, and poultry products in 2011, citing health concerns.
As the Washington Post notes, it’s unclear why Gore has chosen to become a vegan, but people often do for reasons including environmental activism, personal health, ethics, or a combination thereof. The Post, citing an anonymous source familiar with Gore’s decision, says the former VP went vegan several months ago for personal reasons.
