The Corner

Alexander

After reading Mary Renault’s THE PERSIAN BOY and its sequel (can’t remember)

around age 20, I got hooked on Alexander and read up everything I could find

about him. I don’t remember many of the details, but I do remember coming

to the firm conclusion that Big Al was most likely asexual — Hephaestion,

Bagoas, and the wisecracking Cynics (“Alexander was defeated only once — by

Hephaestion’s thighs…”) notwithstanding. Be interested to hear Vic Davis

Hanson’s opinion, though.
