It seems to me that we can say confidently that Alito is actually BETTER qualified than even John Roberts, the acknowledged gold standard. Their respective appellate credentials are similar (with Alito having the edge even here, since he has been an appellate judge for 15 years, versus Roberts’s two), and Alito has great trial court credentials as well (in light of his experience as Assistant US Attorney and US Attorney)—Roberts’s one weakness.
