Allen West: I’ll Run for Senate in 2016 if Rubio Runs for President

When asked if he will run for the Senate if Marco Rubio runs for president, former representative Allen West (R., Fla.) said, “Of course.”

“If that became an open seat, of course I would run,” West said. “I have a good statewide appeal and a lot of people would like me to get back on Capitol Hill.”

West qualified his desire to run, saying he would run only if the seat were open and would not challenge Rubio in the primary. “I’m not looking to create disruption within our party. I don’t think it’s a viable option right now,” West said.

West, a prominent tea partier, lost a contentious election for the 18th district of Florida in 2012.
