Ambassador Lipinski, Please

Barack Obama has an open slot for ambassador to the Holy See. A few names have been suggested, among them a congressman from Illinois, Dan Lipinski. The president has not asked for my recommendation, but Lipinski would be the best candidate this White House could send there. Lipinski, who is Catholic, is that rare breed: A Democrat who opposes his party’s surrender to the abortion industry. Given Lipinski voted against Obamacare on account of its hostility to conscience and is the member of the House who ever-reliably makes pro-life legislation “bipartisan,” it’s not likely he’d be nominated. On the other hand, given the president’s tendency to pay lip service to respect for conscience while narrowing its protection, Lipinski is the most obvious choice.
