On today’s edition of The Editors, Rich and his co-hosts discuss the probability of an American Mars landing during Trump’s second term and why we shouldn’t turn up our noses at setting up camp on the Moon.
Jim declares, slightly tongue-in-cheek, that a Mars landing “will happen in Vance’s second term.”
Noah draws listeners’ attention to our under-valuing of the Moon, saying that while a Mars landing “will happen eventually. . . . it won’t happen in Trump’s term.” He’s “a little dispirited by an internal debate over the value of the Moon. Elon Musk has turned against a permanent presence on the Moon. And there’s some interagency dispute over whether NASA’s focus on establishing that permanent presence is valuable. . . . It’s really helpful to have a station that you can use to refuel and reorient yourself on the Moon. So I’m a little skeptical that our priorities are in the right place, but it’ll happen one day.”
What about Charlie? And why is Rich a naysayer about the Moon’s importance? Listen below to find out.
