Andy McCarthy and the Blind Sheikh

In early 1993, a group of men loaded an explosive device into a car, drove the car into the parking garage of the World Trade Center, got out, walked away, and then detonated the device.  Six people were killed, more than a thousand injured.  Today, the man who directed the bombing, the “Blind Sheikh,” Omar Rahman, sits in prison, serving a life sentence.

The prosecutor who put Rahman away?  NRO’s own Andy McCarthy, the author of a magnificent new book, Willful Blindness:  A Memoir of the Jihad.

Today on Uncommon Knowledge, Andy discusses the first bombing of the World Trade Center, and the long, long trail of Sheikh Rahman.  Was justice served?  “Yes,” Andy replies.  Was national security served?  “No way.”

Click here, and you’ll learn, as I did—although I’d been reading Andy’s material for years, I’d never met him until he walked into the studio—that Andy McCarthy represents an utterly compelling personality.  If John McCain fails to name him Attorney General, he’ll have some explaining to do.  Come to think of it, if I lived in New York instead of out here California, I’d be trying to figure out how to get Andy to run for governor.

The Kavanaugh Court

If Justice Barrett votes as her mentor Justice Scalia did, she will be part of an ascendant conservative majority on the Supreme Court. What kinds of decisions can we expect from this majority? Vote Your Conscience

At the 2016 Republican convention, Senator Ted Cruz spoke a controversial phrase: “vote your conscience.” I think about this phrase, this idea, fairly often. I’m not one to give advice on voting (or much else). But when asked for advice, I usually say, “Vote your conscience.” Sweet conscience! One of ... Read More

Trump vs. Biden: A Rundown

One week out, the contrasts are worth assessing. Foreign policy Biden so far has issued no substantive critique of Trump’s foreign policy other than banalities that Trump’s comportment and unpredictability have offended allies and tarnished America’s reputation. But who exactly, according to Biden, is ... Read More

The Only Middle Finger Available

If Donald Trump wins a second term, it will be an unmistakable countercultural statement in a year when progressives have otherwise worked their will across the culture. After months and months of statues toppling and riots in American cities and a crime wave and woke virtue-signaling from professional sports ... Read More
