Anonymous Debate

David Frum has responded to my post about the problem of anonymity in public debate. I find his reply a bit vague and not particularly reassuring. Many of the sort of problems I outline in my post could still be operative, even given what Frum has implied. There’s more at stake here than civility. Also, Debs is a “Democratic activist,” so presumably his politics are already public. Why draw the line here? Has Debs never written publicly under his own name? I doubt it. In any case, I’m grateful to Frum for his swift response.
