Another Challenger for Steele?

Politico’s Jonathan Martin reports that Maria Cino, an RNC and NRCC veteran who worked in President George W. Bush’s Commerce and Transportation Departments, has created a 527 committee to run for RNC chair:

Cino filed papers to create ‘Maria for Chairman’ Friday with the FEC, a move that will let her raise and spend money in a campaign to take over the national party. In a sign of her strength among GOP insiders, Cino’s Alexandria-based organization is being aided in part by Mary Cheney, the daughter of the former vice president. Cheney’s name is listed on the filing papers as one of three individuals helping to organize the committee. Cino’s formal announcement is likely to come soon after Thanksgiving, according to a source who is part of a small group advising her on a possible run.

The State of the Race for the House

Way back in January, I went through the then-34 seats where a Republican incumbent was retiring and concluded that most were in deeply red districts and not likely to flip to Democrats. Pollsters and media organizations are less inclined to conduct surveys of House races, both because there’s less public ... Read More
