Another Day, Another WaPo Gun Freakout

An alarming headline from the Washington Post:

‘We do not need a militia of toddlers’: If Iowa law passes, children can carry handguns

Wow! So, Iowa is allowing children to carry firearms, as adults can. Have we all gone mad?

Nah. As the piece explains:

State Rep. Jake Highfill (R) said the new bill, which passed 62-36, “brings the code in line with long guns and shotguns” by allowing them to possess a firearm under direct supervision from a parent or legal guardian.

It defines “direct supervision” as “supervision provided by another person who maintains visual and verbal contact at all times with the supervised person.”

In other words, this law is designed to allow minors to learn how to shoot a handgun — under parental supervision, no less.

Relax.
