The 2026 midterm elections are certainly important for pro-lifers. Control of both the U.S. House and U.S. Senate are at stake. Additionally, there are four states that have ballot propositions that pertain to abortion. Pro-lifers are trying to defeat ballot questions in Idaho, Nevada, and Virginia that would place abortion rights in their respective state constitutions. Additionally, pro-lifers in Missouri are trying to pass Question 3 which would remove legal abortion from Missouri’s state constitution and ban transgender treatments for minors.
However, there is another ballot question that should be of interest to pro-lifers. On November 3, voters in Seminole, Texas have the opportunity to vote Proposition B — also known as Proposition 2. This ballot proposition would make Seminole a sanctuary city for the unborn. Though Texas has strong statewide pro-life laws, local sanctuary city for the unborn ordinances close important loopholes. These ordinances prevent abortion trafficking, abortion pill trafficking, and the trafficking of aborted remains sent to Texas landfills.
These sanctuary city for the unborn laws are especially important in West Texas cities like Seminole. That is because New Mexico, which has some of the most permissive abortion policies in the country, is only 30 minutes away. Mark Lee Dickson, the founder of the Sanctuary Cities for the Unborn Initiative, says that several New Mexico abortion facilities target Texas residents — including minors without parental consent. He stated, “Seminole is a gateway to death into New Mexico.”
Since the Dobbs decision, pro-lifers have invested a considerable resources in a variety of federal elections and statewide campaigns. However, local elections are important for pro-lifers as well. Thus far, 83 Texas cities and 100 cites in the nation have passed Sanctuary City for the Unborn ordinances. Voters in Seminole have an opportunity to add to those numbers on Tuesday.
