I have received so many e-mails nominating Roland Burris for the Laetare Medal that I feel the need to inform readers that the recipient must be a Catholic , which Burris is not. (Note: it was originally only for the laity until 1968, but it has since been awarded to both laymen and clergy.) But I’m sure that the senator from Illinois would love to inscribe another line item on his now-famous mausoleum.
