Would Texas Senator Ted Cruz’s legislation to prevent President Obama from expanding the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program that provides young illegal immigrants with an effective amnesty?
The legislation, offered today as an amendment to the continuing resolution the Senate is considering, would not permit Obama “to newly authorize deferred action for any class of aliens not lawfully present in the United States.”
That would not stop current DACA enrollees from renewing their applications to participate in the program.
“The legislation in question wouldn’t apply to anyone currently in lawful DACA status,” staff for Senator Jeff Sessions (R., Ala.) told National Review Online.
