The Corner

Anwr

From a reader:

Jonah,

After all of your good reporting on ANWR (like this http://www.nationalreview.com/flashback/goldberg200503180758.asp) and traveling to see the place, I am puzzled why NRO and the Corner have not mentioned that the Conference Report on the Energy Bill does not include ANWR. There seems to have been no pressure to get it included in the final bill. If I recall the House version included ANWR drilling and the Senate excluded it. I foolishly expected that the ANWR provision would be included in the Conference Report and the final energy bill. This has been a pretty big issue for a lot of conservatives, why isn’t there a lot of comment on this now? Maybe it is because, as Rich Lowry said in this article, “ChevronTexaco, ExxonMobil, BP and ConocoPhillips all have backed off their support for drilling.” In any case I am sure a lot of your readers would like to know what all the NRO sages have to say about it.

As a side note, I really enjoy the NRO, the Corner and Bench Memos. Great work, definitely cuts into my productivity, but adds to my education. I started reading NR in the 1970s and still read each issue. Thanks for all the good work.

Me: I have been remiss on staying on top of ANWR stuff lately. I’ll do some homework and get back to you. Maybe if Steve Hayward wasn’t playing so much hookie from the Corner with those No Left Turns guys….
