That’s exactly the strategy some advocates of some life-destroying biotech research are pursuing — to some success, for instance on the cloning front. Confuse people enough as to what you’re talking about and they won’t object, because they won’t know. See the debate over Amendment 2 in Missouri as an example. Or New Jersey before that.
