Matt Lee, a reporter for the Associated Press, incredulously asked State Department spokesperson Jen Psaki how Secretary Kerry could call President Obama’s decision to come to Congress for a Syria resolution “courageous.”

“I don’t understand what is courageous about asking permission […], [permission] that you say you don’t need, to do what you believe to be the right thing,” Lee said. He went on to ask, “Was there some kind of group spine removal procedure at the White House over the weekend?”

President Obama contends that despite asking Congress to authorize military intervention in Syria, such a request was unnecessary.
