AP/GfK Poll: Romney Leads Nationally

Mitt Romney is at 47 percent among likely voters, two points ahead of President Obama (45 percent), in a new poll from the Associated Press/GfK. One reason? Romney’s made huge gains among women:

The AP-GfK poll, taken Friday through Tuesday, shows Romney pulling even with Obama among women at 47-47 after lagging by 16 points a month earlier.

Romney has also successfully chipped away at the amount of likely voters who think that it’s inevitable that Obama will win a second term:

At the same time, expectations that Obama will be re-elected have slipped: Half of voters now expect the president to win a second term, down from 55 percent a month earlier.

The poll sample is 47 percent Democrat, 45 percent Republican, and 6 percent independent.
