The media is breathlessly asking whether Don Rumsfeld
will apologize tomorrow when he appears before two committees chaired by
Republicans to be raked over the coals? For what? Let’s agree, at
least here in the Corner, that apologies are owed by people who are
directly responsible for some offense, to people who have been directly
harmed. The former category does not include the American public and
the latter category excludes the entire population of the Middle East.
