Apparently, ‘Abuse’ Is an Irregular Verb

The first half of today’s Politico Playbook chronicles the Democrats’ ongoing attempt to abolish or reform the Senate filibuster, which, now that it is benefitting the Republican party instead of the Democratic party, they claim is being “abused.”

The second half of today’s Politico Playbook notes that the Democrats intend to filibuster a bill that almost every member of the Senate supports, and which the Democrats have long advocated, so as not to embarrass President Biden or hand Senator Cruz a political win:

Dems pivot on pipeline: Cruz’s bill is expected to fall short of the 60-vote threshold needed to advance. Senate Democrats are expected to reject the legislation, despite their previous support for sanctions. Democrats say they don’t want to undercut Biden as he navigates precarious talks with Russia over its possible invasion of Ukraine, and they don’t want to do anything that would undermine trans-Atlantic unity.

It’s a game.
