Ugh. The president turns 81 in a few months and looks and sounds like a doddering old man. President Trump isn’t far behind at 77 years old, and his Truth Social feed is an endless variety of unhinged rants and conspiracy theories. We’re all hoping 81-year-old Mitch McConnell doesn’t freeze up again, or have any further consequences of his previous falls and concussion. And 90-year-old Dianne Feinstein needs her staff to remind her what she’s doing from moment to moment.
Despite a lot of complaints about an American gerontocracy, no one can pry these seniors’ fingers off the steering wheel of the ship of state. But at least we no longer have Nancy Pelosi running the House of Representatives as speaker, and she’s headed towards retirement, and — wait, what?
