That leads onto the third point. There certainly are in Britain powerful and widespread social forces that will soon revert to a policy of appeasing our enemies and denigrating our friends and allies. These are people and groups who fundamentally hate their own country and civilization and, though they may conceal this hatred from themselves by various ideological blinkers, are driven by it to undermine their own defenses and to support even those enemies who are frankly opposed to them. I call these people “the counter-tribalists.”
But such forces also exist in America–and in roughly the same places:
the universities, the media, the parties of the Left, the BBC (natch!), and so on. Strong and determined political leadership can put them on the defensive, however, as Bush has shown in the U.S. and Howard in Australia.
