Helms, president of the Transgender American Veterans Association, asked whether he would add protections for sexual orientation to the Employment Non-Discrimination Act. “You have been saying, ‘No American left behind.’ Does that mean no transgender American will also be left behind? There are 3 million of us, and that’s a lot of votes,” said Helms, a Navy veteran.”
