Ark. Governor Sends State RFRA Back to Legislature

Arkansas governor Asa Hutchinson has returned his state’s version of the federal Religious Freedom Restoration Act, HB1228, passed Tuesday, to state legislators. “I’ve asked them to recall it and change the language,” Hutchinson said at a news conference Wednesday morning, citing concerns about its adherence to the federal RFRA and its “tone.” The governor had previously indicated that he would sign the bill — but that was before Indiana became embroiled in protests against its own version of the law.
