Back in the ’80s, David Letterman used to make fun of Madonna’s publicity stunts by saying, “I think she’s trying to shock us.” This piece, too, is a sort of attention-getting device. Conservatives are finally starting to make headway against the facile imputation of racism to anyone who expresses conservative views. Malarkey like this does a serious disservice to conservatives, and indeed to everyone else.
