I’m sure Andy will concur that when the president is asked whether the removal of an United States attorney would impede an investigation, this shows a complete misunderstanding about how these offices work.  There are hundreds and hundres of assistant U.S. attorneys who conduct the vast majority of investigations and prosecutions.  They would speak out and resign in protest if they thought a new U.S. attorney was impeding an ongoing case.
