Australian Parents Publish Correction to Birth Announcement When Teen Changes Gender

A “retraction” in an Australian newspaper is receiving widespread praise because it involves two parents correcting the gender of their child. In a recent edition of Brisbane’s Courier Mail, the couple reportedly revealed the 19-year-old’s gender identity in an item titled, “A retraction – Bogert.”

In 1995 we announced the arrival of our sprogget, Elizabeth Anne, as a daughter. He informs us that we were mistaken. Oops! Our bad. We would now like to present, our wonderful son — Kai Bogert.

“Loving you is the easiest thing in the world,” the blurb concludes. “Tidy your room.”

The announcement has since gone viral among readers pleased with the parents’ acceptance of their child’s new identity. But the Telegraph notes that some are skeptical of the veracity of the “retraction,” reporting that Bogert’s Facebook page says she identifies as a female.
