During a discussion on the network, Douglas Rushkoff, who contributed to Frontline’s latest project on social-media habits, slighted MSNBC for falling short in viewership. Rushkoff explained that just as television networks will air content with shock-value to get higher ratings, people take a similar approach on social media, prompting The Cycle co-host Touré to deny that MSNBC plays for the ratings.

“Of course you don’t — this is MSNBC,” Rushkoff responded. “There’s other stations with maybe higher ratings that do.”

The show’s co-hosts immediately reacted to the “unnecessary burn,” as Touré put it, before Rushkoff said that his slight was intended to be good-natured.
