Axelrod Urges 2014 Dems to Be ‘Selective’ in Siding with Obama

David Axelrod admits Democrats will “have their hands full in 2014″ and encouraged red-state Democrats to distance themselves from President Obama’s policies in order to win. Particularly in states such as South Dakota and West Virginia, candidates need to “burnish their reputations as independents,” the former Obama adviser said on Friday’s Morning Joe.

“They’ll choose selective issues where they differ with the president,” he said.

The possibility that Republicans will take the Senate in November is “a serious threat” that Democrats are overlooking as they lay the groundwork for 2016, warned Axelrod, and the party needs to redirect its efforts. “They better train their attention to these races,” he said.
