Bad Endings

Via Ross Douthat and David Edelstein we have the outstanding subject of movies with absurd plot-twist endings. Many good suggestions abound. But if I recall the movie correctly, Jacob’s Ladder deserves to be on the list. Alas, it was so bad, maybe I’m remembering it incorrectly.

But I certainly agree with Edelstein that The Life of David Gale was terrible. It demonstrated, I think, that while most twist endings are bad because the director/writer doesn’t know how to end the movie, some don’t know how to start it. Gale is a great example of a movie whose ending dictated the entire plot. The problem was that they never figured out how to make all the stuff before the last 2 minutes interesting.
