The Battle of Madison

My New York Post column on the fight between Governor Walker and the public-employee unions is up. A sample:

Let’s be clear about what’s at stake in Wisconsin, where the battle between Gov. Scott Walker and the public-employees’ unions is now well and truly joined. It’s not just about balancing the state budget, nor simply about collective bargaining. It’s not even about the future of the labor movement.

It’s about the future of the country and who is to be master — the voters or the “public servants.”

In what is effectively a criminal enterprise were it not for the moment legal, public-union leaders negotiate ever-larger pay and benefits from the very politicians to whom they then kick back “campaign contributions.” All at taxpayer expense.

Jonah has it exactly right: It’s time for public unions to go. This racket has gone on long enough.
