With the executive branch dragging its feet on the Keystone pipeline, senators Max Baucus (D., Mont.) and John Hoeven (R., N.D.) have introduced legislation to allow Congress to approve the project. On Fox News this afternoon, Baucus pushed for construction to begin as quickly as possible to spur job creation and move toward energy independence, calling it “a no-brainer.”
Baucus and Hoeven emphasized that the pipeline would not just transport Canadian oil, but American-produced oil as well, including from their states. The State Department, as Baucus explained, has indicated that the pipeline would have no significant environmental impact, despite detractors’ claims. “We should have been building it yesterday; we should have been building it four years ago,” he added.

This is not the first time Baucus has been at odds with the Obama administration in recent weeks: Last month, he asserted in a local-television interview that the White House had come up with the idea of the sequester, as the administration was trying to spread the blame to congressional Republicans.
