Hat-tip to Mark Hemingway for finding this money quote from outgoing Sen. Chris Dodd (D., Conn.) in the Boston Globe. The question was why the Democrats couldn’t pass a tax plan:
In the Senate, at least three moderates — Ben Nelson of Nebraska; Kent Conrad of North Dakota; and Joseph Lieberman of Connecticut — joined [Republicans] in saying tax cuts must be extended for everyone. When asked why his party could not agree on a plan, Senator Chris Dodd, Democrat of Connecticut, said simply, “Because we’re Democrats.’’
Indeed.
