Greg Pollowitz points out that that, contra my claim a few items below, the Huffington Post does have moderated comments. It checks all comments on blog items before they go in and “post-moderates” comments on news stories like the one on Cheney and the bombing that started this whole to-do. That means it reserves the right to delete comments its staff deems offensive. That’s a good thing. But deleting them doesn’t mean the comments weren’t left there in the first place, and as I said before, what struck me about them was the sheer number — dozens upon dozens upon dozens, in a string of a few hundred – that seemed to relish the thought of the assassination of the vice president of the United States. It doesn’t mean everything. But it sure doesn’t mean nothing.
